How To Choose The Right Chocolate For Your Kids

Girl Holding A Cup With Hot Chocolate - Chocolate & More Delights

Chocolate is probably the world’s most favourite food. Kids love it, parents love it. It is an instant cure when you are stressed, in a bad mood, sad or simply bored. Happy vibes are generated in no time with a bit of chocolate.

Chocolate has gotten some bad press in the past depending on who paid for the research. The ideas range from support of extreme chocolate consumption to claims that chocolate is a killer. The “research” has confused parents and made some very unhappy chocolate bereft children.

Chocolate is a very ancient food. Chocolate is like any other food. Moderation is the key to eating chocolate. You cannot eat a pound of chocolate a day, get no exercise, and expect no bad health consequences.

Chocolate has numerous health benefits. Parents should probably not tell their children about these. Wait to tell your children until they are old enough to understand some things about nutrition and how the body works. It is just human nature to rebel. We avoid what is “good” for us.

Chocolate has a high concentration of flavonoids. These are antioxidants. That means chocolate is good for your heart and cardiovascular system if it is dark chocolate with a cocoa content of 70% and above. The flavonoids also have anti-inflammatory effects that can help prevent diabetes. There is a common misconception that eating chocolate causes diabetes in children. According to the American Diabetes Association, “the key to sweets is to have a very small portion and save them for special occasions so you focus your meal on more healthful foods”.

Chocolate produces the release of a hormone that makes not only children have a good mood. The effect is nearly instantaneous and the smell of chocolate itself is already relaxing. You can make your home a bit more pleasant and avoid overly grumpy children or parents with a bit of chocolate. It sweetens the mood due to the tryptophan content in chocolate.

Brands like Kinder offer a large variety for children that are appealing to the taste and attractively packaged. The Kinder Surprise eggs are famous throughout the world as a chocolate surprise for children with a hidden toy inside. Kids love chocolate in any shape or form. It could be a chocolate bar, chocolate spread, a hot chocolate or chocolate frosting.

How to choose the right chocolate for your kids is simple. Pick real chocolate and choose dark chocolate, when possible. It is healthier than other forms of chocolate, as it has lesser amounts of sugar, milk and other additives. You can order chocolate online for your convenience. Be certain that your children are not allergic to any ingredients in the candy or cookies.

Chocolate Tempering And Other Kitchen Tips

Chocolate Tempering - Chocolate & More Delights

Have you ever wondered how people heat up chocolate? Well, it's not as hard as it seems. You just have to follow the procedures they follow to get the desired result. When you want to produce chocolate in a solid form that is covered with a fruity cream or ganache filling, you have to use the couverture chocolate. The couverture will add a nice, appetizing and inviting shine. It will also add a pleasant snap when you take a bite and give the chocolate a smooth texture that has no graininess. If you should use the plain chocolate, the end product of your chocolate may be cracky and waxy. It may not even look polished. If you are someone that wants to make chocolates regularly, you should endeavor to get a chocolate thermometer. They are not expensive, and they will help you to temper your chocolate accurately without stress.

Chocolate Tempering

The first step is to chop the chocolate as evenly as possible and put just about 2/3 of the total quantity into your heatproof bowl or a Bain-Marie. Heat some amount of water say, 5 cm, in a small pan and just pop the heatproof bowl or Bain-Marie on the pan (make sure the bottom of the heatproof bowl doesn't come into contact with the water). Allow your chocolate to melt gradually. Once it turns to liquid, take out the heat and remove the bowl or Bain-Marie from the small pan as you wrap a neat towel around the base for warmth.

After adding the remaining chocolate from the ones you chopped earlier, use the chocolate thermometer to stir it until it gets to 31 or 32 C (87 - 90 F) for a dark-colored chocolate, 30 to 32 C equivalent to about 87 F for the milky chocolate, and 27 to 28 C (80 - 83 F) for the white chocolate. This will take a short while. After all these steps are completed, it should be ready for your chocolate production.

Microwave Tempering for Busy People

This method is mainly for anyone with many jobs at hand, children or pets to look after, a train to catch, or just anything that takes a lot of time. Start by popping up the chocolate (already chopped) in a microwaveable container( glass or plastic bowl) and melt it at about 900W. Keep checking it every 14 seconds and ensure that it doesn't get overheated. When your chocolate seems to have melted out (with small bits of bubbling on top of it), remove the chocolate from the microwave and stir gently. Stir until it gets smooth. With this stirring, it should get thick and is ready for consumption.

Bonus Tip

Anytime you want to use your kitchen, make sure that the area is ventilated. Also, clean all your utensils before and after use. It doesn't matter what you're preparing in the kitchen. Always make sure it is clean and safe. If you prefer to shop for chocolate rather than making it, visit our store for a great selection of German and Swiss chocolates.

Pumpkin spice has become very popular lately to the extent that not only Americans are so obsessed with it. There is no need to wonder so much as to what the reason could be. It appears to have taken over our taste buds since it is used to spice many food products such as pumpkin flavored yogurt, candies, coffees and so on. There is always a pumpkin spice product you can find whenever you enter any mall or supermarket. Let us look some reasons for the pumpkin spice obsession:

Limited Period of Availability

Since pumpkin has its season, whenever it is available people rush to get it. They wait patiently for its annual return and this behavior has been explained by 'the reactance theory.' This theory explains why we react the way we do when we know that our choices are limited. With the knowledge of the limited time, pumpkin spice will be available; people tend to demand it aggressively.

Social Influence

Despite the fact that pumpkin spice is good and tastes great, other spices equally taste nice. Since we live in a society with friends and family, we are likely to be influenced by the decisions of others especially when many people have decided to toll that path. The case of the pumpkin spice obsession is not an exception. Lots of people are influenced when they see others rush out for the pumpkin spice lattes of the season.

Warm and Fuzzy Feeling

A critical look at autumn season does not have any meaning but the one we choose to attach to it. Autumn is characterized by early sunset and the falling of dead leaves. This does not bring any positive emotions. When you attach the knowledge of school resumption, family holiday or new leather boots that you can get during this period, you'd be looking forward to the season. The same way we inject this feeling into the autumn season, that is how the warm and fuzzy feeling has been injected into the pumpkin spice's arrival.

Sweet Sensation in the Brain

It is a known fact that pumpkin spice products are extremely sweet. This means that it has a high tendency of making people addicted. The brain, as it were, has been wired to respond to the secretion of glucose which is its primary source of energy. The brain needs sugar for it to function effectively in learning and thinking.
